This Summer I finished my 50th trip around the Sun (yikes! that's a lot of mileage). Glad to be here. I got to mark the occasion with Britt and at one of my most favorite places on Earth. Britt shot this lovely photo while at Sierra Mar in Big Sur for my birthday dinner.
It feels like a time of transition; turning 50 and being without Lily.
I miss her very much. Last Sunday walking at Green Lake with Emmy we saw a dog that from a distance looked like a Collie. (We see very few Collies.) Emmy, who never pays any attention to other dogs and ignored the dozens of other dogs we encountered, spotted this "Collie" from a distance too and took off running towards it, pulling on her leash. It was an Aussie, but it had Lily's coloring & it was taller & a very collie-looking Aussie. This happened once before when she was with Cindy and I in the Arboretum, and a man was walking his Collie up ahead. That time she pulled the leash right out of my hand. I had to shout at the man to not be alarmed at the Labrador charging towards him; that she just thought she had finally found her sister. We all want another Collie in the house, and we're actually working on getting a Collie puppy. They're hard to get, but it looks like we may be getting very close. And so a new chapter will begin.
Happy Autumn!
